‘Nobody more deserving.’ Past and present TCU baseball players rave about Kirk Saarloos

Once he heard former and current players were welcome to attend Kirk Saarloos’ introductory news conference as the next baseball coach at TCU, Josh Watson didn’t hesitate taking a break from his day job at Land Advisors Organization and heading to campus on Tuesday afternoon.

Watson called Saarloos one of the best coaches he had during his playing days and a significant reason why he landed at TCU. Saarloos started recruiting Watson when he was a sophomore at Arlington Martin in 2013.

That’s the year Saarloos added “recruiting coordinator” to his title along with pitching coach.

A number of MLB coaches expressed interest in TCU job, including former Rangers manager

TCU drew interest from a number of current and former MLB coaches for its baseball opening over the last week.

Former Texas Rangers manager Jeff Banister was among those who expressed interest in the job, multiple sources told the Star-Telegram. Several people reached out to TCU on behalf of Banister over the weekend, a source said, including Rangers COO and president of business operations Neil Leibman.

But TCU never seriously considered Banister or any other MLB coach. Instead, a source said, the school wanted to hire someone with college baseball experience.

DMN: TCU to have a ‘major announcement’ about its baseball program Tuesday, will reportedly name Kirk Saarloos head coach

A week after watching its longtime baseball coach Jim Schlossnagle take a job at Texas A&M, TCU may be nearing the end of its search for his replacement.

In a statement late Monday night, the program said it will have a “major announcement regarding the TCU baseball program” at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Kendall Rogers of D1Baseball.com reports that the expectation is TCU assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Kirk Saarloos will be named the program’s new head coach.
