Sheesh. Briles is now 65. Sure he could coach a few more years, but would TT welcome all his baggage for just a few years of coaching?

Briles has a terrible resume as a person, but was a genius as an offensive coach. If you hired him as OC, could you control him?
Even if he behaved so well he made Gandhi look like a gangster, the reputation of the school would really be in question.

I still think a big state school can’t hire Briles
No there's no way that it will actually happen.

But IF it were going to happen then a historically losing program desperate for relevance in a backwoods region that revolves around its university would be the place it would happen. So Tech and just about any lower level SEC team would be the places that might consider him.

But... A&M already has Jimbo.

Jimbo doing it just right for aggy. . . Just outside the playoff group, no CCG. So aggy right in their sweet spot- Bitching and moaning about how they belong, without having to actually step up and try to prove it, where the inevitable bed-[ #2020 ]ting would be pretty well guaranteed. Perfect scenario for them, really.

The degree of corruption that existed during Briles coaching tenure was bizarre.

To allow someone of that character to become part of a university's program

would be an injustice. Win at all costs, integrity be damned!

Great, great points.

Wonder if UT kicked the tires on Jimbo before Herman?? In hindsight he woulda been perfect for them. CEO type who is a great recruiter who doesn't mind the booster, TV BS that comes along with the job. Jimbo has managed the Aggie nation very well...

Probably a 50/50 they hang some type of banner.

I will probably have a meltdown if ND beats Clemson again and Aggie gets into playoff though.

Hiring his son is probably a better choice. Not a backlash but still get Briles. And if he is good head coach you have young Briles for a long time. He can grow with your program like they were hoping Kliff could of done. His dad probably could become an analyst for his son without backlash.

Texas A&M has looked great and have had top recruiting classes in which they are paying for the best athletes to go to A&M over national championship teams. Jimbo has a lot of pressure to get that title and it looks like A&M will do everything and anything to get one now. I think they will get a championship maybe not this year but not too far into the future. College Station protects A&M like Waco protects Baylor. So the dirty dealings are hard to find and prove when the whole area will do anything for A&Ms success.

The dude couldn't get hired in Italy. He barely got hired in the sticks of east Texas.

He's not going to be hired at tech.
Thinking the same. Certainly they would realize how much it would hurt them in recruiting. The negative recruiting against them would yield well for opposing schools.

In an era of cancel culture, PC and #metoo, why would a school like Tehc even entertain the notion of Briles?

Trying to connect politics to football is mostly dumb. However the loudmouth billionaire Tech donor spearheading this Briles talk also hosted a Trump rally in Midland that the Tech Chancellor and President attended this year.

That said, while I think Tech is one of the few power 5s whose fan bases would let the school get away with hiring him, Briles ain’t going to Lubbock. Even if that cow-[ #2020 ] raider rash desert is what he deserves. Same billionaire donor tried to call the shots when they fired Kingsbury and the AD told him to eat [ #2020 ] then too. Now, if the AD suddenly takes another job somewhere else, look out, Tech co-eds.
