GoFrogs: Gregory Jr. Advances to NCAA Finals
EUGENE, Ore. — Robert Gregory Jr. advanced to the 200m finals Wednesday night at Hayward Field at the 2021 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
The freshman's closing speed propelled him from third to second at the end of the race, edging out USC's Davonte Burnett who earned the final time qualifying spot. Gregory Jr. will look to improve his 20.40 semifinal mark in the 200m final at 8:35 p.m. CT on Friday, June 11.
The men's 4x100 relay started the day off with a 39.24, placing 11th overall and third in their heat. The Big 12 Champion quartet of TJ Brock, Tinotenda Matiyenga, Kundai Maguranyanga and Gregory Jr. closed out the season as Second Team All-Americans.
Matiyenga and Gregory Jr. were all over Hayward Field with three entries each. Matiyenga collected two Second Team All-America honors between the 4x100 relay and the 200m (12th / 20.68) and honorable mention in the 100m (18th / 10.40).
Gregory Jr.'s events included the 200m, 4x100 relay and 4x400 relay, the last of which was disqualified after a lane obstruction.
